Schedule with Kevin here.

My counseling approach is holistic, clinically-informed, and gospel-centered. It is a joy to walk with people through life’s hard places. I believe we are all image-bearers with great purpose who are never out of the reach of our God’s loving hands. I specialize in pastoral care, marriage, depression, anxiety, addiction, and trauma care.

I am a Certified Biblical Counselor through the Association of Biblical Counselors and a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (CCTS-I) with EMDR training. I am a licensed counselor in Missouri and serve as the Counseling Director at a faith-based men’s shelter where I work with men and women who are homeless or formerly incarcerated. I also supervise counseling students from a local university. I am trained in fatherhood development and relationship skills, including communication, conflict management, expectations, emotional safety, commitment safety, and physical safety.

I also really enjoy working with people who are in vocational ministry. I served in vocational ministry for 18 years through youth, music, church planting, eldership, and pastoral care. I know ministry can feel like a lonely place with all kinds of struggles. We need safe, grace-filled places to struggle and heal through our suffering in life. I am licensed and ordained as a pastor and received my Masters in Counseling from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO.

I grew up in the Ozarks of Southwest Missouri and felt a call to ministry at the beginning of my second year of college. My wife and I have been married for 12 years, have two children (8 and 4), and enjoy faithfully serving our church in Missouri.

More about Kevin…

What led you to become a counselor?

Many years of pastoral ministry, finding out that I was an encourager, getting married at 33 years old, and going through hard things in life is what led me to counseling.

What do you enjoy most about your work as a counselor?

I enjoy listening to people’s stories and walking through the ups and downs of life with them. It is a joy to see the gospel impact them and start to change their life.

How do you take care of your own mental and emotional well-being?

I stay in God’s Word, practice good self-care, talk to my wife, open up with our Community Group, and take mental health days.

Do you have any specific areas of expertise or personal interests within counseling?

My expertise is in biblical counseling, trauma, addiction, caring for pastors, and marriage counseling. I am also a licensed and ordained pastor.

What are your favorite books or resources related to counseling or personal growth?

  • Gospel-Centered Counseling and Gospel Conversations both by Robert W. Kellemen
  • The Dynamic Heart in Daily Life by Jeremy Pierre
  • Suffering And The Heart of God by Diane Langberg
  • Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy by Mark Vroegop

How do you integrate your faith or spirituality into your personal life?

By following what God’s Word says about being a part of the church, how to handle finances, sharing the gospel, and how to treat others. The Bible informs all of my thinking, feeling, and choosing in all areas of life.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of your counseling work?

I enjoy making memories with my family, singing and playing music, and watching sports.

Are there any personal experiences or life lessons that have shaped your approach to counseling?

Growing in my marriage and communication, miscarriages, and working with the homeless and formerly incarcerated have changed how I counsel people.

How do you handle stress or challenges in your life?

Through worship, rest, lament, and taking mental health days.

What is one piece of advice or wisdom you find yourself sharing often with clients?

The most vital thing you can do for you and your family is to work on your relationship with the Lord.
