As a pastor or leader in ministry there are a thousand pressures and burdens to carry. One of the first things that is often overlooked is the care of our own soul. Sabbaticals are a gift of space and time to receive from the Lord what is needed for the next season of ministry. Having a trusted guide walk with you through your sabbatical can help you make the most of it.

Your Rythms & Practices

We typically walk through a simple framework of Release, Rest, Reflection, Reorientation, and Re-Entry for sabbaticals. Some folks will do an Intensive as part of their sabbatical as well. Our desire is to help you find healthy rhythms for your soul, family, ministry, and life.

A Plan for Future Health

We want to help you reenter the next season of ministry with a plan for wholeness and flourishing. We will work with you and your church during the last phase of the sabbatical to ensure the best possible transition.

Sabbatical Coaching

We provide support, resources, and coaching designed specifically for pastors and ministry leaders sabbaticals.

Typically sabbatical coaching is tailored to the individual and church and involves:

  • Build a plan for rest and renewal
  • Assess the state of your heart (thoughts, emotions, and intentions)
  • Evaluate your current rhythms, practices, roles, and relationships
  • Develop a simple plan for living with a heart connected to the gospel and in union with Christ
  • Identify any areas that you would benefit from further reflection, care, counseling, or study
  • Develop a reentry plan

The Gospel Care Collective offers sabbatical guidance with the goal of rest and reorientation of soul. The most important gift a pastor gives to his ministry is his transformed and transforming presence. Sabbatical is a time away from ministry with focused intentionality on the quality of one’s Christ-bearing presence.

FAQ

How much does it cost?
The cost is $1500 for Sabbatical Coaching. This includes profiles, sabbatical related sessions, communication with the board (or representative) responsible for the sabbatical as well as a written report at the end of the sabbatical.

For churches looking for sabbatical policy consulting or resources we will be glad to help on an hourly basis.

How many sessions are typical in Sabbatical Coaching?
Typically you and your Sabbatical Coach will meet 8-10 times over the course of your sabbatical. This includes pre-sabbatical planning time and post-sabbatical followup.

Do I have to do this in person?
No, all Sabbatical Coaching is done online.

Who are the Sabbatical Coaches? 
Jason Kovacs has been serving as a pastor and counselor for the past 20 years in a variety of churches and organizations of all sizes.

Doug Wolter has served as a lead pastor and various roles as a pastor over the past 20+ years.

Kevin Stratton has been a worship pastor, church-planter, counseling pastor, and worn many other hats in the church over the last 20 years.
